Time: 10:00 CEST & 17:00 CEST
Duration: 1 hour

Speakers - Morning session:

Carlos Bravo, Director Cloud Strategy Execution, Ericsson

Jochen Bockfeld, Director Common Services, Telefónica Germany

Speakers - Afternoon session:

Carlos Bravo, Director Cloud Strategy Execution, Ericsson

Volkmar Hammer, Head of Network Standards, Vodafone

Description:

Today’s service providers are in a great position to address revenue opportunities in the emerging edge ecosystems where connectivity, compute and execution will form a single unified, integrated execution environment for distributed applications.

To capture these revenue opportunities, service providers should identify which role they want to adopt in this emerging market firstly. Secondly, they should begin to make in-roads and establish a strong foothold in the cloud ecosystem by developing advanced relationships with cloud providers and specialized industry players.

For service providers, the route into this market will be made of three phases: creating a value proposition in the edge ecosystem, developing the network as a platform for enterprise services, and preparing for the evolution towards the deep network edge.

1st phase: Today service providers can capture the first wave of edge computing use cases by focusing on dedicated deployments on-premises where connectivity performance requirements are stringent, and by exploring on-network application deployments at the point of presence of today’s Packet Core sites. Here, integrating service orchestration with 5G Core, irrespective of who owns the infrastructure, will be the key to success.

2nd phase: The availability of large-scale computation at the edge of the network will significantly simplify how enterprises deploy and consume IT. The vision for service providers should be to provide full end-to-end orchestration, with defined service level agreements, in a self-service and automated way.

In this session we focus on the 1st and 2nd phases with concrete examples from our service provider engagements in terms of plans and execution.

Managing the networks of the future: The Ericsson Operations Engine data-driven transformation journey

Date: June 2, 2021
Time: 10:00 CEST & 17:00 CEST
Duration: 1 hour

Speakers:

Camilla Overödder, Head of Sales, Managed Services, Ericsson

Sam Keys-Toyer, Head of Business and Portfolio Development, Managed Services, Ericsson

Description:

Networks are becoming increasingly complex to manage making conventional operations unsustainable. The vast amounts of devices and data, the speed at which those valuable assets are being generated, and the increasing need to transitioning from reactive to proactive and predictive operations require from Communications Service Providers (CSPs) a much more data-driven approach for business value generation.

The Data-driven Reality is here and now and will become imperative for managing the networks of the future.

Join us on our Data-driven transformation journey. A journey that began over three years ago when we took a blank sheet of paper and started to redesign our operations model. The culmination of that was the launch of the Ericsson Operations Engine (EOE) in 2019.  A completely new approach for CSPs to address the new demands of operating the networks of today and into the future (5G and IoT) with AI/ML, automation, data analytics and a wealth of processes, tools and human expertise in the telco domain.

Since then, our EOE transformation journey has started to pay-off and it is already proving value to our customers. In this session we will go deeper into some of these tangible benefits.

5G is an ecosystem play, it gives service providers a new opportunity to increase revenues outside their traditional domain of connectivity and mobility. This is often touted as a chance to move up the value chain. As the CSP role evolves, BSS needs to be flexible enough to support new and different business models to properly monetize new 5G & IoT use cases. This work explores use cases that are synchronized with wider Ericsson use case work and focuses on what is required to capture the revenue opportunity in a BSS solution.

Ericsson will examine four 5G consumer use cases, their associated business models and the impact of these scenarios on BSS.

AR/VR Fun: Immersive gaming

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) for private homes

3D video experience: Video-on-Demand (VoD)

5G stadiums immersive experiences

What do these use cases mean for BSS capabilities, including charging, billing and catalog management?

Enterprise dematerialization through digitalization

Time: 10:15 CEST & 18:15 CEST
Duration: 1 hour

Speakers:

Anders Erlandsson, Head of IndustryLab, GFTL ER RA Consumer & IndustryLab, Ericsson

Sepideh Matinfar, Experienced Researcher, GFTL ER RA Consumer & IndustryLab, Ericsson

Description:

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the world with almost 3 million lives lost. Millions of people were subjected to short term lay-offs or lost their jobs completely, and others rapidly adjusted to working from home as offices closed. This pandemic can also, in all its tragedy, be seen as a digital tipping point for consumers, enterprises and society. It is therefore important to assess what the lasting effects on work life, internationalization, digital transformation and sustainability will be.

Based on IndustryLab interviews with over 5000 white-collar employees and ICT decision makers from 11 markets, representing the views of about 175 million employees globally, some key take-aways can already be gleaned:

5G, XR, cloud and AI will be key enablers for enterprises in their ongoing dematerialization journeys (being able to create more with less resources) In fact, 2/3 of decision makers agree 5G will be an important innovation platform!

Work outside the office is here to stay, with close to 60% of white-collar work expected to happen outside the workplace by 2030, further driving the need to high-speed, low latency connectivity everywhere, including in people’s homes.

Enterprises will also continue to grow internationally, powered by 5G, cloud and AI – Among enterprises with no, or very limited international customer exposure today, as many as 6 in 10 expect an increase in their international customer activities by 2030

ICT outsourcing and servification will continue. Almost 9 in 10 decision-makers expect their enterprises to do so in the future.
